Montepulciano and Pienza


Two picturesque hilltop towns in southern Tuscany, they are renowned for their wine and gastronomic specialties. Montepulciano is a typical medieval Tuscan town where its famous vino nobile red wine is made from Sangiovese grapes.
Pienza was rebuilt in the 1400s by Pope Pious II with a harmonious architecture to reflect the ideal Renaissance humanistic town. On an earthier level, enjoy the pecorino sheep cheese typical of this village, along with some vino nobile.
